After a short drive, you will reach the palace of Knossos, which is just outside the city. The Palace of Knossos is the largest Minoan palace in Crete and is a European Heritage Site. Over the years, Knossos was repeatedly destroyed and built up again. The Palace counts over about 800 rooms, it is believed that the number was much higher.

Visit Heraklion city, which is both port city and capital of the Greek island of Crete. At the Venetian harbor of the city, you can find  the fortress Koules, which was built in the 16th century.
